I Suiseki Exhibition of Spain - Arishige Matsuura

From next May 1st to 4th 2008, at the Science Museum CosmoCaixa, La Caixa Foundation, Alcobendas (Madrid) - Spain, will be held for the first time in Spain an event dedicated exclusively to the Art of Suiseki.

Let's count, as honour guest, with the presence Mr. ARISHIGE MATSUURA, president of the
Nippon Suiseki Association and a founding member of that association (1961) and pupil of the sensei of the Suiseki Art, Mr. Kenji Murata. At present, Mr. Matsuura is one of the greatest authorities of suiseki in the world and one of the leader in Japan. He has published numerous books and articles on Suiseki in different magazines specializing in bonsai and Suiseki, for example, the monthly magazine Kibon Bonsai.

We will have no doubt we are going to have with the best collection of suiseki never gathered in an exhibition in Spain, both in the number and quality of suiseki. The collections will be both Spanish and some of the great masters and fans, as Luciana Queirolo, Chiara Padrini, Igor Barta or own Matsuura, among others.

The program of the contest will be:

 Day May 1:

11:00. Inauguration by Mr. Matsuura and local authorities in Alcobendas.

12:00 to 12:30. Presentation of a new national suiseki association of Spain.

Day 2 May:

12:30 to 13:30. Conference of Mr. Matsuura at the auditorium of the museum. As the auditorium seating is limited, we will require confirmation of the attendance.

18:00 to 19:00. Workshop of carving a daiza.

 Day 3 May:

11:00 to 14:00. Ratings and comments by Mr. Matsuura on the rocks exposed.

18:00 to 19:00. Conference on the suiseki art.

21:00 to 23:00. Gala dinner chaired by Mr. Matsuura for all participants in the contest, members of the suiseki association presented during this contest and visitors of the exhibition who so desire (upon confirmation of their attendance).

 Day 4 May:

12:30 to 13:30. Awards for the best suiseki in different categories. Award of the Nippon Suiseki Association. Award of the Bonsai Association of

Alcobendas. Audience Award. Award fans exhibitors.

13:30 to 14:00. Delivery of a commemorative book to all participants of the   contest with photos of all the stones exposed.

During the contest it will available to buy books on suiseki, stones and other materials relating to the suiseki, often hard to reach or unknown in Spain.

All acts, participation, lectures and workshops will be free of charge thanks to our sponsors, except for visitors who want to attend the gala dinner and which are not participants in the exhibition suiseki or guests.

We are convinced that it will be the first major event of suiseki in Spain. If you have a collection of suiseki, or you are interested in this art, it would be a pleasure to have your presence at this event, as well as your participation in the exhibition with some of your suiseki.

We hope to personally welcome this unique opportunity to be part of a historic event in the art of suiseki in Spain.
